‘Any Novel’ Novel Study Guide
Okay, with the school year coming to an end, I started looking around for next year. I am going to implement more reading for my daughter who will be in 4th grade. Along with her reading, I wanted to find studies to go along with the books she will be reading. But, I did not want full blown studies that you find in study guides. I want her to be more independent in her work, and literature guides usually have too much teacher/parent information…if that makes sense. It would just be too hard for me or her to sift through.
Okay, so as I was searching, I decided I would forget about purchasing guides because 1. they are too expensive and my goal this year is to spend as little as possible and 2. well, what I described in the previous paragraph. So I decided I would read ahead and locate the vocabulary and design some questions to go along with the books.

That all sounded good until I bumped into the “Any Novel’ Novel Study Guide website. After going through the website, I think this will work. It definitely will save me time. And it has choices for her so she can still work independently. I might not have her do everything there is, because there is a lot, but maybe have her choose one area per book.

The “Any Novel” Novel Study Guide, is geared for children in grades 6-12 , but I think it can be adaptable for my 4th grader. Another thing I like is you can reuse it as many times as you wish with as many students as you wish! It works for ALL the books we choose and can also be used with her brother next year and then until they both are through high school. Now, I don’t know if I will ever buy another study guide again, but it is unlikely.
You can learn more about it here and purchase your own copy too ! It’s only $14.95!
I find it easier to have curriculum that doesn’t require a lot of planning, and this guide lets the students work on their own. It arrives via email, in a .pdf format, so you can just print it out whenever you want. There’s no going to the library, finding a great book, and wondering what to do with it. You can use the study guide and get all your lessons for art, writing, spelling, grammar, and even history in one!
And because it’s reusable, the $14.95 is quite a deal.
If you can’t use it now, take a look at it for the fall. I think it’s a great resource!
She will begin using this in August, so I will keep you posted on how it is working. I think I might try it with a few books too.
