The Wonderful Art of Drawing Horses

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

My daughter, who is soon to be 10, has been drawing horses since I can remember. It is fun to see how far she has come. For Christmas, I decided to get her this art course by Barry Stebbing, The Wonderful Art of Drawing Horses, that way she can continue to improve and expand her learning into areas of shading, and more realistic techniques. She was excited to get this, and has already begun.

The Wonderful Art of Drawing Horses By Barry Stebbing / How Great Thou Art
Do sketches of ponies keep showing up in the margins of your kids’ homework? Here’s your chance to develop that "doodling" into art! Designed for ages 8 and up, Stebbing’s curriculum offers 87 progressive lessons that emphasize the value of practice and provide drawing tips, black-and-white samples of student artwork, sketches by master artist Leonardo da Vinci, and horse trivia. 119 pages, softcover.

One thing I did tell her was this was NOT part of studies. This was for [...More]

Have a Blessed and Merry CHRISTmas

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

This was such an inspirational speech by President Ronald Regan, that I wanted to share it with you all. Jesus IS the reason for the season…may we never forget that.

Merry Christmas,

Frustrated!

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

Well, my laptop will be sent off to the repair shop once again. Luckily I don’t have anything on there that is too important. I had just begun to download my mail once again, but I had Google keep a copy on their server.
When I first got it back, it didn’t boot up properly. It gave me a blue screen that disappeared before I could read it. Then it would try to reboot. It would go in circles doing these two actions. I eventually shut it off by holding down the on/off button.
The next day when my husband called the service center to let them know, lo and behold, it booted up. We re-booted it a few times while on the phone with the rep, and it worked fine. We hung up.
Now these past two week, it keeps doing this on and off. When my husband went to look for the recovery partition, it was gone. They had deleted it. Ack! Now we had no way to do a recovery. We had to order the CD’s for 20 some odd dollars!!
Today, after updating, my computer would not boot up again. The blue screen kept coming up. So I took out my 20 [...More]

Jewish Calendar and ‘Hanukah Copywork

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

As I was looking for material to do a short study on Hanukah, I found that it can be said and spelled different ways. I am not Jewish, so I am not sure if the ‘c’ in Chanukah is silent so we just say Hanukah (one k or 2), or maybe the ‘h’ is silent too.
Now if that didn’t confuse me, than the Jewish calendar did…for a while anyway. I made up this calendar for a friend. It has both the Jewish holidays as well as the Christian holidays. It also has the Jewish months and year next to our month and year.

~Download~
Here is a nice piece of copywork that can be done one section at a time during ‘Hanukah week.
The Eight ‘Hanukah Lights
With fervor and joy we give thanks to the Lord,
And glory and praise to His name we accord,
While we greet with great gladness this glorious night
And piously kindle each ‘Hanukah light.
To God who is ONE, and whose name is but One,
We’ll ever feel grateful for what He has done;
When all for our race was as dark as the night,
Said the Guardian of Israel, “Let there be light!”
The Commandments God gave to our nation alone,
Whose words were [...More]

Psalm 23 Copywork

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

I am SO glad to report that I have my computer back. Yippy!! I have spent the last few days trying to get my computer back to how it was before I sent it off. They completely wiped clean my hard drive. I am starting from scratch. I did back everything up except my Windows Mail before I sent it off… so I am okay on all that. I just have to remember a lot of my user names and passwords wherever I go now.
With Christmas coming up, I wanted to remind you all of our Nativity Copywork (Luke 1-20) found on our copywork page and our Nutcracker Lapbook.
Now for today’s, Psalm 23.
Psalm 23 [KJV]
1. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest [...More]
