The Monster at the End of This Book
How many of you remember this book? I do not know what brought it to mind, but I remembered reading it to my little brother when I was a teenager. It was SO much fun!!
Then I got to thinking that I don’t even own this book, nor have I ever checked it out from the library to read to my own kids!! So, I ordered myself a copy. I couldn’t wait to read it to the kids.
When it arrived on Thursday, I snuck it into the laundry room so the kids would not see it. I didn’t want them asking me what was in my package. You know how nosy kids can be especially when they see a package in the mail. Plus, they were still doing their studies and I didn’t want to distract them. But oh how I so wanted to just say, “STOP! Mom has a book she wants to read.” But I didn’t.
I waited until story hour at 7:30. Usually we start with the Bible, but that day, I announced that I had a book I wanted to share with them. They got curious when I headed [...More]

Frustrated!

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

Well, my laptop will be sent off to the repair shop once again. Luckily I don’t have anything on there that is too important. I had just begun to download my mail once again, but I had Google keep a copy on their server.
When I first got it back, it didn’t boot up properly. It gave me a blue screen that disappeared before I could read it. Then it would try to reboot. It would go in circles doing these two actions. I eventually shut it off by holding down the on/off button.
The next day when my husband called the service center to let them know, lo and behold, it booted up. We re-booted it a few times while on the phone with the rep, and it worked fine. We hung up.
Now these past two week, it keeps doing this on and off. When my husband went to look for the recovery partition, it was gone. They had deleted it. Ack! Now we had no way to do a recovery. We had to order the CD’s for 20 some odd dollars!!
Today, after updating, my computer would not boot up again. The blue screen kept coming up. So I took out my 20 [...More]

Cooler Weather and Good Soup

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

My Sister-In-Law got me this yogurt maker last year for Christmas, and I am ashamed to say that I just got to using it a few days ago! What took me sooooo looooong? This is GREAT! It was SO easy too.
The kids and I enjoyed a yummy bowl of yogurt yesterday morning. We added bananas and granola. It was so good. Thanks Sis!

I was blog hopping the other day too and came across Elaine’s blog. She had a recipe for “Beefy Noodle and Vegetable Soup” that she concocted herself. It looked good, so I tried it last night for dinner. It WAS good! My husband even said, ‘This is tasty.’ Now if he said it was tasty, that IS good. So thank you Elaine for the wonderful meal.
I didn’t budget my time wisely, and forgot to make rolls to go with it. So I made cornbread. It worked out. I could have just buttered bread too, but didn’t think of it at the time. Also, I didn’t have beef seasoning on hand, so I used the beef packets you get from ramen noodles.

With the weather getting cooler, below 50 yesterday with a chilly breeze, this was great. Today we woke [...More]

“I Kissed Dating Goodbye” What A Blessing!

I Kissed Dating Goodbye
I just want to say that I am VERY impressed with this book! I bought this book to give to my older daughter who unfortunately was hurting because of a broken relationship. I don’t want to go into her personal life, but do want to say that she is my daughter from my husbands first marriage, she is young, living on her own away from home, so we aren’t always available physically for her.
I also bought another copy of the book for myself to read, so I can be there to answer any questions she might have. For my husband, I got him the book on tape so he could listen to it during his commute to and from work. I wanted us to both know what was in the book so if she had any concerns or questions, we would be on the same page so to speak.
We all want what is best for our children, and we as parents feel their pain when they are hurting. I prayed that she would actually take the time to read the book if I sent it to her. I prayed the Lord would speak to her heart through [...More]

My Apologies…

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

for the unnecessary email in your in boxes this morning. I don’t believe it had anything to do with me since I haven’t been around, it might have been a Feedburner hiccup. But…needless to say, I was a little embarrassed. *Grin*
So, as a way of saying I am sorry, I made up a cute piece of copywork. It is such an adorable poem that the kids can copy and maybe memorize. I will be giving it to my kids today. Enjoy!
**Note: I found an error in this download, so if you downloaded it before today, Oct. 1st, 4:30pm, please download it again. I had typed in ‘many go’ when it should have been ‘may go’ in the first stanza.
I haven’t been doing much with blogging as you can see. Like you, I have been b-iiiiiiii-zy! Still working on that organization thing!
The kids have been doing their studies fairly well. They get Bible and math done regularly. Writing most days and we are working towards an hour of reading …not including read aloud time. Slow and steady!
I still do have to push them a little in the morning, I am waiting patiently for the day when that [...More]

Robinson Curriculum

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

It is with a lot of soul searching and prayer that we decided to go with the Robinson Curriculum Philosophy of education.
One reason is that my husband likes the structure. I am more of a spur of the moment type. But, I will be the first to admit that we were not getting enough done. The kids were having too much free time that was not being used productively. Our days were so sporadic and the kids were bickering more and more…over silly things. I wanted to be more structured, but I was lost as to how to go about it. Amazing how sometimes we just can’t grasp or get a hold of something we want so badly.
